IL Citizens Ignited

Peter Roskam won't keep our kids safe from gun violence.

Vote Roskam Out

This November, the residents of the Illinois 6th Congressional District have the opportunity to replace Roskam with a Representative that will serve constituents, not the gun lobby. IL Citizens Ignited was founded to expose the influence of the gun lobby on elected officials and candidates in Illinois. It starts with Rep. Peter Roskam, who has received the second highest amount of financial support from the gun lobby of any elected representative in Illinois.

the sign that launched a PAC

February 2018. Right after the Parkland, FL school shooting, just before the 2018 Illinois primary. Congressman Peter Roskam had repeatedly voted against common sense gun laws throughout his tenure that might have saved citizens in his district from gun violence. The NRA had supported his campaigns ever since he was first elected to Congress. This was no coincidence.

On her way home from work that February, one of his constituents thought about her own school-aged children. Fed up with her congressman’s inaction, she stopped at a sign store and spent $150 to print two large signs that she planted next to Roskam’s campaign signs.

That sign led to a grassroots campaign, which then led to the organization of IL Citizens Ignited, a Super PAC founded by ordinary people who have had enough of the gun lobby influencing their Congressman's legislative agenda.

informing voters

Since the original printing of that sign, Peter Roskam has accepted additional support from the NRA. This newly redesigned sign will reflect the amount the NRA and the gun lobby has spent to buy Roskam's loyalty. With your support, this sign will be displayed all over his district--publicizing for voters the dollar amount Roskam accepted from the NRA--just one of the special interests who fund his campaign.  For more information on who else is paying for Roskam's influence, go to

Peter Roskam doesn't work for his constituents, or protect the kids in this district from gun violence. He works for the gun lobby. Your donation will help draw attention to the organization he serves instead of the residents of his district: the NRA.

Our Focus

The Illinois 6th Congressional District

Incumbent Representative Peter Roskam has been funded and endorsed by the NRA and gun activist organizations.  In 2016, Roskam received a 93% approval rating by the NRA. He has received the highest rating from the NRA among US Representatives in Illinois, tied with 6 other Representatives.

It was reported by The News Gazette that he has accepted over $32,000 from the NRA, the second most of any Representative from Illinois. It's unclear as to the total financial impact by the gun lobby because they use a variety of PACs, individuals, and pass-through contributions to fund candidates and politicians that will support their wants and needs.  In 2018, it is more important than ever to ensure voters understand the political strings attached to Peter Roskam because of his acceptance of financial support from the gun lobby.

See Something, Say Something!

Have you seen you seen our message? Signs have been placed throughout the 6th Congressional District informing residents on Roskam’s stance on gun reform. Want to learn more about our local Congressmen’s votes and views on guns? Check out our latest blogs to read about Roskam and Hultgren’s records.

Also, please leave any signs - ours or any candidates - where they are. Do not move or touch signs. Most importantly, we do not condone trespassing and the placement of signs on private property without the consent of the property owner. If you see a sign that is not where it belongs, please let us know and we will retrieve it.

the future

No matter what Congressional district you live in, please vote this November for lawmakers who will write and pass legislation to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of dangerous people, so America isn't home to daily mass shootings.

Where does your money go?

The gun lobby influences and controls too many of Illinois' elected officials.  Our mission is to expose this truth.

Your donations go toward the purchase of signs, social media campaigns, and other advertising to ensure that this is accomplished.  We don't have paid staff, all work done within the PAC is done by volunteers that care about our kids and protecting them from gun violence. Thank you!
